DHT (Dihydrotestosterone)

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a metabolite that occurs naturally in males and is responsible for the activation and maintenance of certain male-specific characteristics, including the growth of facial and body hair. Belonging to the class of compounds known as androgens, DHT is known to be three times more potent than testosterone and is the leading factor in male pattern baldness.
Finasteride is a common treatment used to correct the negative effects of DHT in men. The medication acts as a DHT inhibitor to block production of the enzyme responsible for the conversion of testosterone to DHT. By reducing the amount of DHT in the scalp, Finasteride can end and sometimes even reverse the balding process.
