Dihydrotestosterone

There are many causes for male baldness. One cause, of course, is the genes which have been inherited from parents. One of the factors in the genes that men can inherit from their parents is sensitivity in hair follicles to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). According to Britannica Encyclopedia, DHT is a by-product of testosterone. It is produced through enzymes mixing with testosterone and changing testosterone to DHT. What has this to do with male baldness? Through many scientific studies, scientists have discovered that sensitivity to DHT causes hair follicles to deteriorate, which causes hair loss and eventually baldness. However, if DHT production is repressed, then hair follicles will flourish and men can retain their hair.
