Hair Follicle Treatments

The development of hair is a complicated process. The hair follicle lies at the bottom part of the dermis and is the sac from which the hair grows. The base of the follicle is called the papilla and consists of tiny blood vessels that help feed and nourish the cells that line the follicle. The bulb surrounds the papilla and is responsible for pushing the hair upward out of the scalp. The cells of the bulb divide about every 24 to 72 hours and are what help the hairs grow. Over time, the hair follicles shrink causing the hair to become finer and shorter. Because of the ways in which the hair follicles function, they are the basis of hair restoration for the treatment of hair loss. There is no etiology for hair loss, so restoring the hair follicles would be of great benefit to many people.
