Treatments for Hair Loss Patterns

Many hair restoration clinics use the Norwood classifications of baldness to assess hair loss. Dr. O’Tar Norwood divided male pattern hair loss into two types. The Regular Type begins simultaneously at the crown and temples.
Gradually, these two areas merge into one large bald spot. Type A baldness is less common. It follows a front to back pattern starting at the forehead and ending near the crown.
Women sometimes suffer from these types of hair loss as well. However, this is uncommon. Usually female hair loss manifests in all-over thinning rather than following a set pattern. This thinning is often most noticeable across the top and front of the scalp.
These patterns describe only hereditary hair loss. Baldness caused by illness or trauma usually follows a different pattern.
Knowing which pattern your hair loss is following can help the surgeon to determine which hair restoration procedure is appropriate for you.
